In her first book, illustrator and author Birta Thrastardottir creates a magical world that recalls the gaudy style of the 60s as well as mysterious silent films in which circus artists and greedy villains run amok and lure children into danger and mischief.

Glow (Skínandi) was nominated as the Best Illustrated Children's book of 2015 by Reykjavik Children's Book Price.

In Glow, the life of an ordinary family is turned upside down the day that young Aurora swallows a star and begins to glow. It's a twist of fate that pushes our shining heroine out of the life a normal girl and into the limelight as a miracle creature who others want to exploit and profit from.

Of course, a little excitement is the spice of life, and although everything may end well, it's not because goodness and truth have won out. No, sometimes a happy ending is more random than that - as random as a star suddenly flying out of your mouth.

The book is written with equality in mind, balance between gender, age, and all living beings. Aurora and her family are not disturbed by the unknown and respond positively to unforeseen changes. The story has a positive influential undertone, but is at the same time funny, exciting and surreal.
